CAD model preparation and CAM programming
You do not need a machine-ready file to start. Send what you have — a CAD model, a technical drawing, or a photo with a few key dimensions — and we will check what the geometry needs, prepare or adapt the model where necessary, and program the toolpaths.
What to send
Three things work as a starting point: a CAD model, a technical drawing with dimensions, or a photo with a few key dimensions marked on it. We work in SolidWorks, and we can work directly from an existing model or prepare one for machining.
If the geometry only exists on paper, a sketch with the overall size and the main radii is often enough for us to say whether a part is practical and what it will cost.
- An existing CAD model, used as it is where possible
- A technical drawing with dimensions and tolerances
- A photo with key dimensions marked
- A hand sketch with overall size and main radii
Feasibility and workholding
Before anything is cut we check whether the shape can actually be machined on the gantry: whether the tool can reach the surfaces, whether the part fits the 4 100 x 2 100 x 1 000 mm envelope, and where it should be held. Large parts are often split into sections that are machined against the same reference and matched afterwards.
That review is where problems are cheapest to fix. A change in the model costs minutes; a change after a block of tooling board has been cut does not.

CAM programming and toolpaths
The machining strategy is programmed in CAM before the machine moves: which areas are roughed out, how the finishing passes run over the surface, which tools are used and in what order. For five-axis work that also decides how the A/C head follows the shape, which is what keeps a curved surface smooth rather than faceted.
Programming is quoted separately from machining time and is usually charged from 100 euros per hour, listed clearly in the written quote.
What you get
A written quote in euros with the price broken into machining time, material, CAD or programming, and finishing, plus a realistic lead time — usually within one working day of the enquiry. You get a dedicated contact person and photos at the stages of the job, including the ones that show the mess.
Questions about CAD and CAM
What files can I send?
A CAD model, a neutral file exported from it, a technical drawing, or a photo with the main dimensions. If you are unsure, send what you have and we will tell you whether anything else is needed.
Is the CAD work charged?
CAD model preparation and programming are quoted separately from machining time, usually from 100 euros per hour, and they are listed as their own line in the quote.
Can you tell me if my part is machinable before I commit?
Yes. We review the geometry, the size and the material as part of quoting, and the quote and the feasibility check come before any chargeable machining work.
Do you keep the files for repeat orders?
Yes. The model and the CAM program stay with the job, which is what makes a repeat piece identical to the first.
Send a file and get a price
Model, drawing or photo — whatever you have. We will tell you what is missing and come back with a written price and a lead time.
